Kanchipuram to Kedarnath Relaxation Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahabalipuram
    1 hour 30 minutes (40 miles) from Kanchipuram

    Start the day early with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Shore Temple. Built during the 7th century, this temple is located on the shore of the Bay of Bengal and offers stunning views of the sunrise. Afternoon, enjoy a relaxing stroll on the Mahabalipuram Beach followed by a visit to the Five Rathas - a group of rock temples shaped like chariots. In the evening, explore the local markets and try some delicious seafood.

  2. Day 2: Pondicherry
    2 hours 30 minutes (100 miles) from Mahabalipuram

    Start the day with a visit to the Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community that promotes yoga and meditation. Afternoon, explore the French Quarter and admire the colonial architecture of the buildings. In the evening, take a relaxing walk along the Promenade Beach and enjoy the sea breeze.

    Start the day with a visit to the Triveni Ghat and take a dip in the holy waters of the Ganges. Experience the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony at Parmarth Niketan Ashram and watch as the river comes alive with floating diyas (lamps). In the afternoon, take a walk across the Lakshman Jhula Bridge and explore the many ashrams and temples located on the banks of the river.

  5. Day 5: Kedarnath
    8 hours (120 miles) from Rishikesh

    Take a helicopter ride to Kedarnath, a holy town located in the Himalayas. Visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India and an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Take a scenic walk to the Vasuki Tal Lake and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. In the evening, relax at your hotel and enjoy the serenity of the mountains.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, consider visiting the hill stations of Ooty or Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu. These places offer cool weather, scenic views and plenty of opportunities for relaxation. You can also consider taking a side trip to Haridwar, another holy town located close to Rishikesh. To maximize your fun, try some adventure activities like river rafting or bungee jumping in Rishikesh. Lastly, make sure to try the local cuisine in each place and indulge in some shopping for souvenirs.
