One Day Itinerary for Shillong in June 2023

  1. 9:00AM: Don Bosco Museum
    10 minutes (2.7 km) from Police Bazaar

    Learn about the indigenous people of Northeast India and their cultures in this seven-story museum. The museum features interactive exhibits and displays of traditional clothing, handicrafts, and musical instruments. You can also enjoy a panoramic view of Shillong from the rooftop.

  2. 11:00AM: Ward's Lake
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Don Bosco Museum

    Enjoy a leisurely walk around this picturesque lake surrounded by beautiful gardens and trees. You can also rent a paddleboat and explore the lake. There are several food stalls near the lake where you can try some local snacks.

  3. 1:00PM: Lunch at Jadoh
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Ward's Lake

    Head to Jadoh for a taste of authentic Khasi cuisine. Jadoh serves delicious rice dishes cooked with meat, vegetables, and local spices. Try their signature dish, Jadoh, which is rice cooked with pork, ginger, and other spices.

  4. 3:00PM: Shillong Peak
    30 minutes (10 km) from Jadoh

    Drive up to the highest point in Shillong for breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding hills. There is a viewing platform at the top of the hill from where you can take beautiful photos. You can also visit the nearby Air Force Museum.

  5. 5:00PM: Elephant Falls
    30 minutes (12 km) from Shillong Peak

    Take a short hike through the woods to reach the stunning Elephant Falls. The falls are named after a rock that used to resemble an elephant. You can take a dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls or just enjoy the view.

  6. 7:00PM: Dinner at City Hut Dhaba
    20 minutes (7 km) from Elephant Falls

    End your day with a hearty meal at City Hut Dhaba. This popular restaurant serves a variety of Indian and Chinese dishes at reasonable prices. Try their butter chicken, biryani, or noodles.

Other attractions that you might want to consider include the Laitlum Canyons, Mawlynnong Village, and Umiam Lake. If you have more time, you can take a day trip to Cherrapunjee to see the living root bridges and the Seven Sisters Falls. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a raincoat or umbrella as it might rain in June.
