2-Day Adventure Itinerary in Meghalaya, August 2023

  1. Day 1: Living Root Bridges
    4 hours (55 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, you will start your journey from Shillong to Mawlynnong, a beautiful village that has been awarded the cleanest village in Asia. You will see the Living Root Bridges built naturally by the local Khasi tribe. In the afternoon, you will have lunch at a local restaurant and take a stroll around the village. The village provides a breathtaking view of the plains of Bangladesh. You can also visit the balancing rock and explore the nearby forest. In the evening, you will return to your hotel in Shillong.

  2. Day 2: Trek to Double Decker Living Root Bridge
    5 hours (58 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, you will start your journey to Tyrna village and then take a hike down to Nongriat village. The trek is a bit challenging and will take about 2-3 hours, but the Double Decker Living Root Bridge is worth it. You can also take a dip in the natural pool beneath the bridge. In the afternoon, you will have lunch at a local restaurant and explore the village. The village has several other waterfalls and natural pools, which you can visit. In the evening, you will return to your hotel in Shillong.

You can also visit the Umiam Lake, which is a beautiful man-made lake in Shillong. You can go kayaking, boating or take a zip-lining ride across the lake. Another must-visit place is the Mawphlang Sacred Forest, which is considered sacred by the local Khasi tribe. If you have some extra time, you can also visit the Dawki river, which is famous for its crystal clear water and the Indo-Bangladesh border. Make sure to try the local cuisine, which includes Jadoh, a dish made of rice and meat, and Dohneiiong, a pork curry.
