Family-Friendly 7-Day Itinerary for North East in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kaziranga National Park
    2 hours (75.8 km) from Guwahati

    Start your day early with a jeep safari in the Eastern Range of the park. Spot one-horned rhinos, elephants and tigers, if you're lucky. After lunch, take an elephant safari for a closer look at the wildlife. End your day with a cultural show on Bihu dance and music.

  2. Day 2: Shillong

    Explore the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong, on your way to Shillong. In Shillong, check out the Don Bosco Museum, the largest cultural museum in Asia. Enjoy local Khasi cuisine at Lamee restaurant and end your day with a walk around Wards Lake.

  3. Day 3: Cherrapunji
    1 hour 20 minutes (55.3 km) from Shillong

    Visit the living root bridges in Nongriat village, guided by the local Khasi tribes. Afternoon, explore the majestic Nohkalikai Falls and Mawsmai Caves. Stop by the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram to learn about the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

  4. Day 4: Dawki
    3 hours (90 km) from Cherrapunji

    Boat ride on the crystal clear waters of Umngot River. Go kayaking, swimming and cliff jumping. Enjoy sunset at Shnongpdeng riverside camping site and stay overnight in the tents.

  5. Day 5: Guwahati

  6. Day 6: Majuli Island

    Take a ferry to the largest river island in the world, Majuli. Visit the satras or monasteries to witness the unique dance and music of the neo-Vaishnavite culture. Learn about the local art of mask-making and pottery.

  7. Day 7: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
    6 hours (225 km) from Majuli Island

    Go on a jeep safari to see the endangered one-horned rhinos in the wilderness. Stop by the Mayong Central Museum to learn about the history of black magic and witchcraft in Assam. End your day with a bonfire and barbecue dinner at the resort.
