4-Day South India Adventure Itinerary for September 2023

  1. Day 1: Bangalore
    30 minutes (9.8 miles) from Kempegowda International Airport

    In the morning, head to the Wonderla Amusement Park for thrilling roller coasters and water rides. After lunch, visit the Ramanagara hills, where the Bollywood movie Sholay was filmed, and go rock climbing, rappelling and zip-lining. In the evening, explore the Bangalore nightlife scene in the Indiranagar neighbourhood, with its trendy bars and live music venues.

  2. Day 2: Coorg
    5 hours (152 miles) from Bangalore

    Start the day with a nature walk in the lush forests of Coorg. After lunch, go white-water rafting on the Barapole River, followed by a visit to the Iruppu Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in India. In the evening, take a plantation tour and learn about the coffee, tea and spice production in the region.

  3. Day 3: Munnar
    5 hours (150 miles) from Coorg

    Begin the day with a sunrise hike to the top of Meesapulimala Peak, the highest peak in South India. After breakfast, visit the Eravikulam National Park to see the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and other wildlife. In the afternoon, go paragliding over the scenic tea plantations of Munnar. End the day with a visit to the Tea Museum to learn about the history of tea in the region.

  4. Day 4: Kovalam
    8 hours (210 miles) from Munnar

    Spend the morning relaxing on the sandy beaches of Kovalam. After lunch, visit the Kovalam Surf Club and learn how to surf the waves of the Arabian Sea. In the evening, take a boat ride along the Neyyar River to see the crocodiles and other wildlife in the area.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the hill station of Ooty, the wildlife sanctuaries of Bandipur and Mudumalai, and the historic city of Mysore. You could also take a houseboat tour of the backwaters of Kerala, or go on a trek in the Western Ghats. To maximize your fun, be sure to pack comfortable clothes and shoes, sunscreen and insect repellent, and bring a reusable water bottle. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, which includes dosas, idlis, appams, and fish curry.
