Dharmasthala Cultural Immersion Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple
    15 minutes (5.2 km) from Dharmasthala Bus Stand

    Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Morning is the best time to visit the temple as you can witness the Abhishekam and Rudrabhisheka pooja, which are performed every day. You can also attend the Annadana (free food serving) program that happens every day. In the afternoon, visit the Bahubali statue located 3 km from the temple. The statue is 39 feet tall and stands on a hilltop. In the evening, visit the Manjusha Museum, which is situated inside the temple premises and displays the life and history of Lord Bahubali.

  2. Day 2: Neliyadi Beedu
    25 minutes (12 km) from Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple

    Neliyadi Beedu is a small village located in the Dakshina Kannada district. The village is known for its traditional ancestral homes that have been preserved for over 500 years. The houses are built with red clay tiles and wooden pillars. In the morning, visit the village and explore these traditional houses. In the afternoon, visit the Manjusha Museum, which is situated inside the temple premises and displays the life and history of Lord Bahubali. In the evening, attend the Yakshagana performance, which is a traditional dance drama form of Karnataka.

Recommendations

Apart from the above itinerary, you can explore the Netravathi River Barrage and the Rathnagiri Bore, which are located near Dharmasthala. You can also visit the Kukke Subramanya Temple, which is approximately an hour's drive from Dharmasthala. If you have time, you can plan a trip to the nearby city of Mangalore, which is famous for its beaches and seafood. To maximize your fun, try to attend the annual festival of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple, which usually happens in November or December.
