6-Day City Experiences Itinerary for Varanasi and Allahabad in November 2023

  1. Day 1: Varanasi Ghats
    30 minutes (9.2 km) from Varanasi Airport

    In the morning, experience the spiritual energy of the Varanasi Ghats and watch the sunrise over the Ganges River. Take a boat ride to see the different ghats and witness the morning rituals performed by the locals. In the afternoon, visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism, located near the ghats.   2. Day 2: Sarnath

    In the morning, visit Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first teachings after attaining enlightenment. Explore the ruins of Buddhist monasteries, the Dhamek Stupa, and the Sarnath Museum to learn about the history and significance of this site.   4. Day 4: Triveni Sangam

    In the morning, visit the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of three rivers – Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Take a boat ride to see the meeting point of these rivers and the different bathing ghats. In the afternoon, return to Allahabad and visit the Khusro Bagh, a Mughal-era garden and tomb complex. In the evening, attend the Maha Aarti ceremony at the Sangam and witness the beautiful display of lamps and flowers.

  5. Day 5: All Saints Cathedral and Allapur

Visit the homes of the weavers and see the intricate process of making these beautiful sarees. Buy some souvenirs and support the local artisans. In the evening, return to Allahabad and enjoy the local street food.

  6. Day 6: Shri Hanuman Mandir and Departure

    In the morning, visit the Shri Hanuman Mandir, a temple dedicated to the monkey god Hanuman. This temple is famous for its 20-feet long statue of Hanuman, which is believed to be the largest in North India. In the afternoon, do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs and gifts. In the evening, depart for your next destination.

Recommendations

If you have time and interest, you can also visit the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum, the Benaras Hindu University, and the Akshaya Vat tree in Varanasi. You can also take a side trip to Chunar Fort, Vindhyachal Temple, or Kaushambi. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies like chaat, lassi, malaiyo, and paan.
