Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Puri for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit Jagannath Temple
    10 minutes (3.2 km) from Puri Beach

    Morning: Start your day early and head to Jagannath Temple to witness the morning Aarti ceremony. The temple is one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimage destinations in India and is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures.
    Afternoon: Indulge in some local delicacies such as the famous Puri Mahaprasad, a meal consisting of 56 items, at the Ananda Bazaar near the temple. It is an excellent place to shop for handicrafts and souvenirs.
    Evening: Take a stroll on the Puri beach and enjoy the sunset. The beach is famous for its golden sand, and you can also indulge in water sports such as surfing and parasailing.

  2. Day 2: Visit Konark Sun Temple
    1 hour 20 minutes (36.8 km) from Jagannath Temple

    Morning: Head to the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Odisha. Built-in the 13th century, the temple is known for its magnificent architecture and intricate stone carvings.
    Afternoon: Have a picnic lunch at the nearby Chandrabhaga beach and enjoy the serene surroundings. The beach is famous for its clear blue waters and is an ideal place to relax and rejuvenate.
    Evening: Head back to Puri and visit the Raghurajpur artist village, famous for its Pattachitra paintings and palm leaf engravings.

  3. Day 3: Visit Chilika Lake
    1 hour 30 minutes (50.5 km) from Raghurajpur artist village

    Morning: Take a boat ride on Chilika Lake, the largest brackish water lagoon in Asia and a famous bird-watching destination. Spot some of the migratory birds such as flamingos and pelicans, and enjoy the scenic surroundings.
    Afternoon: Visit the Satpada Dolphin Sanctuary, located on the banks of the lake. You can spot some of the rare Irrawaddy dolphins here and also indulge in some seafood delicacies.
    Evening: Head back to Puri and visit the Sudarshan Crafts Museum, famous for its stone and wood carvings. You can also shop for some souvenirs here.

Apart from the above itinerary, you can also visit the Atharnala Bridge, famous for its architectural brilliance, and also the Pipili village, known for its beautiful applique work. You can also plan a day trip to the nearby town of Bhubaneswar, known for its ancient temples and architectural masterpieces. Make sure to try some local delicacies such as the Chhena Poda and Rasagulla during your stay.
