4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Puri, Jagannath Jee Temple in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Jagannath Temple
    12 minutes (2.3 km) from Puri Beach

    In the morning, visit the famous Jagannath Temple, which is one of the four pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Afternoon, head to Narendra Tank, a large tank located near the temple. Take a dip in the holy water and seek blessings. In the evening, visit the Puri Beach for an amazing sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Chilika Lake
    1 hour 10 minutes (50.9 km) from Jagannath Temple

    In the morning, take a boat ride to the Kalijai Temple located in the middle of the Chilika Lake. Enjoy the serene surroundings and beautiful views of the lake. Afternoon, visit the Satapada Dolphin Sanctuary, which is home to the endangered Irrawaddy Dolphins. In the evening, relax at the Barkul Beach, overlooking the Chilika Lake.

  3. Day 3: Konark Sun Temple
    1 hour 25 minutes (36.4 km) from Chilika Lake

    In the morning, explore the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous temples in India. The temple is designed like a chariot, with 12 pairs of wheels representing the 12 months. Afternoon, visit the Chandrabhaga Beach, which is known for its clean waters and golden sands. In the evening, take a stroll around the nearby fishing villages and witness the daily life of the locals.

  4. Day 4: Pipli Village and Raghurajpur Artist Village
    20 minutes (10.5 km) from Konark Sun Temple

    In the morning, head to Pipli Village, which is famous for its applique work. You can find a variety of handcrafted items such as bags, wall hangings, and cushion covers. Afternoon, visit the Raghurajpur Artist Village, which is known for its Pattachitra paintings. The village has around 120 households, and most of them are involved in making these beautiful paintings. In the evening, head back to Puri and relax at your hotel or explore the local markets.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Jagannath Rath Yatra, which is a famous chariot festival that takes place in July. You can also take a side trip to the nearby city of Bhubaneswar, which is famous for its ancient temples and caves.
