Kedarnath Two Day Itinerary for September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    Located in the heart of Kedarnath
    Morning: Wake up early to visit the holy Kedarnath Temple, one of the four shrines of Char Dham Yatra. Take a dip in the holy waters of Gaurikund before visiting the temple. The temple opens at 6:00 AM, and the darshan is usually quick in the morning.
    Afternoon: Visit the Bhairavnath temple, a small temple dedicated to Lord Bhairav, located about 500m from the Kedarnath Temple. After lunch, take a 30-minute trek to Gandhi Sarovar, a beautiful lake, and enjoy the serene surroundings of the Himalayas.
    Evening: Attend the evening aarti at the Kedarnath temple, which starts at 7:00 PM. The aarti is a beautiful sight with the sound of bells and conches echoing in the valley.
  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    Located about 8km from Kedarnath
    Morning: Start early to trek to Vasuki Tal, a glacial lake located at the base of Vasuki Parbat. The trek is steep and can take 4-5 hours, but the view of the lake is worth the effort.
    Afternoon: Trek back to Kedarnath and have lunch at one of the local dhabas. After lunch, visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi, a shrine dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya, who is believed to have attained Mahasamadhi here.
    Evening: Relax and enjoy the beauty of Kedarnath at your leisure. You can also visit the Vasuki Nath Temple, located near the lake, and attend the evening aarti at the Kedarnath Temple.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can also visit the nearby Triyuginarayan Temple, which is believed to be the venue of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. You can also explore the picturesque town of Sonprayag, located about 20km from Kedarnath. If you are interested in adventure, you can go for a trek to the Kedartal, a beautiful lake located about 18km from Kedarnath. To maximize your fun, make sure you carry all necessary trekking gear and a first aid kit. Finally, don't forget to taste the local cuisines of Kedarnath, which are simple but delicious.
