Pondicherry Full Places - 3-Day Itinerary - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Sri Aurobindo Ashram
    5 minutes (1.2 km) from Pondicherry Bus Stand

    Start your morning by exploring the spiritual and peaceful atmosphere of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Learn about the life of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, their teachings and philosophies. Spend your afternoon at the nearby Bharathi Park, a beautiful garden with lush greenery, colourful flowers and a beautiful pond. In the evening, visit the Promenade Beach, a popular spot among tourists and locals alike, to witness a stunning sunset and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze.

  2. Day 2: Auroville
    25 minutes (10 km) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram

    On your second day, visit Auroville, an experimental township founded in 1968 with a vision of creating a universal town where people from all over the world can live in peace and harmony. Start your morning by visiting the Matrimandir, a golden structure that represents the soul of Auroville and is a place for silent concentration. Spend your afternoon exploring the various boutiques and shops in Auroville, where you can find handmade crafts, clothes, and jewellery. In the evening, head over to the Auro beach for a mesmerizing view of the sunset.

  3. Day 3: Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Auroville

    On your last day, visit the Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple. Start your morning by experiencing the serene and spiritual atmosphere of the temple. Spend your afternoon at the Pondicherry Museum, which boasts a collection of rare bronze and stone sculptures from the Pallava and Chola dynasties. In the evening, head over to the Botanical Garden, a beautiful park with a wide variety of exotic plants and trees, and a musical fountain show that starts at 7 pm.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, you can visit the Gingee Fort, which is a 70-minute drive from Pondicherry. The fort has an interesting history and offers a stunning view of the surrounding area. Another great side trip idea would be to visit the Paradise Beach, which is an isolated beach accessible only by boat. You can also explore the French quarter of Pondicherry, which has beautiful heritage buildings, cafes, and restaurants.
