Exploring Dharamshala in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Namgyal Monastery
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Gaggal Airport

    In the morning, visit Namgyal Monastery, one of the most important Tibetan monasteries outside of Tibet. Learn about the history of this holy site and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Bhagsu Waterfall and take a dip in the refreshing pool. In the evening, visit the bustling McLeod Ganj Market for shopping and dinner.

  2. Day 2: Triund Trek and Dal Lake
    1 hour 20 minutes (8.4 km) from McLeod Ganj

    Embark on the famous Triund Trek, a moderate hike that offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Carry a picnic lunch and enjoy it at the top. In the afternoon, head to the serene Dal Lake and take a boat ride while admiring the picturesque surroundings. In the evening, relax and dine at one of the lakeside cafes.

  3. Day 3: Gyuto Monastery and Tea Garden
    20 minutes (6.5 km) from McLeod Ganj

    Begin the day by visiting Gyuto Monastery, known for its unique Tantric rituals and butter sculptures. Afterwards, explore the Kangra Tea Garden and learn about the tea-making process. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea and some snacks. In the evening, head to St. John in the Wilderness Church for some peace and quiet.

  4. Day 4: Kangra Fort and Masroor Rock Cut Temple
    1 hour 20 minutes (33 km) from McLeod Ganj

    Visit the Kangra Fort, a historic fort that dates back to the ancient times. Explore the various structures inside the fort complex, including the Sheesh Mahal and the museum.   5. Day 5: Norbulingka Institute and Chamunda Devi Temple

In the afternoon, visit the Chamunda Devi Temple, a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the Goddess Durga. Admire the beautiful architecture and the stunning views. In the evening, head back to McLeod Ganj for a farewell dinner.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, one of the highest cricket grounds in the world. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Palampur and explore its lush tea gardens and quaint markets. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies such as momos and thukpa. Don't forget to carry warm clothing as the weather can get chilly even in June. Finally, be respectful of the local culture and customs.
