2-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Moscow in May 2024

  1. Day 1: Red Square
    10 minutes (1.3 miles) from Kremlin

    Start your day by visiting Red Square, the heart of Moscow. Take a walk around the square and admire the iconic St. Basil's Cathedral and the beautiful GUM shopping center.     25 minutes (5.3 miles) from Red Square

    Start your day with a visit to the Moscow Zoo, one of the oldest and largest zoos in Europe. You and your family can see over 8,000 animals from around the world. For lunch, head to the nearby Danilovsky Market, where you can taste various cuisines from different parts of Russia. In the afternoon, visit VDNKh, a complex of pavilions built during the Soviet era. You can take a stroll around the park, see the beautiful fountains, and visit the Space Museum, which features exhibits from the Soviet space program. End your day with a visit to the Moscow Circus, which offers fantastic acrobatics, clowns, and animal performances.

Recommendations

If you have time, take a day trip to Sergiev Posad, a beautiful town located 50 miles northeast of Moscow. It is home to the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, one of the most important monasteries in Russia. You can also try ice skating at the Gorky Park or visit the famous Tretyakov Gallery, which houses an impressive collection of Russian art. For transportation, consider taking the Moscow Metro, which is not only efficient but also a beautiful example of Soviet architecture.
