3-Day Itinerary for Chikmagalur in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Mullayanagiri Peak
    30 minutes (12.3 km) from Chikmagalur City

    Start your day early with a trek to Mullayanagiri Peak, the highest peak in Karnataka. Trekking through the misty mountains of Mullayanagiri is a unique experience. The entire trek takes around 3-4 hours, and you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. After descending, you can head to the nearby Sitalayyanagiri Temple, which is known for its unique architecture and beautiful surroundings. In the afternoon, visit the Kavikal Gandi Viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the hills and valleys. End your day with a visit to the Baba Budangiri Shrine and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

  2. Day 2: Coffee Plantation Tour & Hebbe Falls
    1 hour 10 minutes (45.7 km) from Chikmagalur City

    Start your day with a tour of a Coffee Plantation and learn about the history of coffee and how it’s grown, harvested, and processed. After the tour, head to Hebbe Falls, which is a two-stage waterfall surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations. The drive to the falls is scenic and takes around 1 hour. Spend the rest of the afternoon taking a dip in the cool waters of the falls and enjoying the serene surroundings. On your way back, stop by the Kalhatti Falls and enjoy the picturesque view.

  3. Day 3: Belavadi & Halebidu Temples
    1 hour 45 minutes (80 km) from Chikmagalur City

    Spend your last day exploring the ancient temples of Belavadi and Halebidu. Start with the Veera Narayana Temple, which is known for its intricate carvings and beautiful architecture. After that, head to the Halebidu temple, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. Spend the afternoon exploring the temple ruins and admiring the intricate sculptures and carvings. On your way back to Chikmagalur, stop by the Chennakesava Temple in Belur, which is known for its beautiful architecture and sculptures.
