3-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Goa, August 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the Beaches
    30 minutes (12.5 km) from Goa International Airport

    Start your day at Anjuna Beach, known for its stunning coastline and vibrant flea market. Take a dip in the Arabian Sea or simply relax and soak up the sun. Afterward, head to Baga Beach for water sports like parasailing and jet skiing. In the evening, visit the iconic Calangute Beach and enjoy a mesmerising sunset with some delicious street food.

  2. Day 2: Discover Goa's Heritage
    40 minutes (15 km) from Calangute Beach

    Begin with the historic Fort Aguada, which dates back to the 17th century and offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea. Next, visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. In the evening, explore the Latin Quarter of Fontainhas, famous for its colourful Portuguese-style villas and quaint cafes.

  3. Day 3: Go on a Nature Trail
    1 hour (35 km) from Fontainhas

    Start your day at the Dudhsagar Falls, one of India's tallest waterfalls surrounded by lush green forests and a perfect place for some trekking. Next, head to the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of flora and fauna, including leopards, deer and exotic birds. Finally, visit the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, a haven for birdwatchers with over 400 species of birds.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, visit the vibrant neighbourhood of Panaji, the capital city of Goa, and explore the centuries-old Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. You could also take a side trip to the historic city of Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's known for its ancient temple ruins. To maximize your fun, try out some of Goa's famous seafood dishes, like prawn curry and fish thali, and enjoy the nightlife at Tito’s Lane or Club Cubana. Finally, don't forget to try the local cashew feni, a Goan liquor made from fermented cashew fruit.
