Meghalaya Nature Tour in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mawphlang Sacred Forest
    40 minutes (16.7 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Mawphlang Sacred Forest, a dense forest with towering trees and a variety of flora and fauna. Take a guided tour and learn about the Khasi tribe's unique culture and beliefs, which consider the forest sacred. After lunch, head to Wah Kaba Falls, a hidden gem surrounded by lush greenery. Take a dip in the cool waters or enjoy a picnic by the falls. In the evening, visit Elephant Falls, which cascade down a series of rocky steps, creating a mesmerising spectacle.

  2. Day 2: Dawki and Mawlynnong
    3 hours (81.4 km) from Shillong

    Drive to Dawki, a small town on the border of India and Bangladesh. Take a boat ride on the clear waters of the Umngot River, which is considered one of the cleanest rivers in India. After lunch, visit Mawlynnong, a serene village known for its cleanliness and well-manicured gardens. Take a walk on the living root bridge, a unique bridge made of interlaced roots of rubber trees. In the evening, return to Shillong and explore Police Bazar, a vibrant market selling local handicrafts, clothes, and food.

  3. Day 3: Nohkalikai Falls and Cherrapunjee
    1 hour 20 minutes (52 km) from Shillong

    Drive to Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India, plunging down from a height of 1115 feet. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the falls and the surrounding hills from the viewpoint. After lunch, visit Cherrapunjee, one of the wettest places on earth. Explore the Mawsmai Cave, a limestone cave with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites. End the day at Seven Sisters Falls, a group of seven cascading waterfalls amidst the beautiful hills.

If you have more time, consider visiting the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat and the Balpakram National Park. You can also take a day trip to Shnongpdeng, a popular spot for river camping, kayaking, and cliff jumping. To maximise your fun, try the local cuisine, including Jadoh, Dohklieh, and Nakam Bitchi. Finally, make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry a raincoat, as Meghalaya is known for its unpredictable weather.
