Trekking to Tungnath Temple in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chopta
    4 hours (79.5 km) from Haridwar Railway Station

    Make an early start to reach Chopta by afternoon. The drive takes you through the scenic vistas of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. After reaching Chopta, check-in to your hotel and have lunch. Spend the evening exploring the quaint hamlet, strolling through the lush green meadows, and enjoying the cool mountain breeze. Dinner and overnight stay at Chopta.

  2. Day 2: Tungnath Temple
    1 hour (4.5 km) from Chopta

    Begin your day early with a hearty breakfast. Trek to the Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek is moderate, but the views are breathtaking. Once you reach the temple, take a moment to soak in the serene surroundings. After visiting the temple, trek for 1.5 km to reach Chandrashila peak. The view from the top is stunning and worth the climb. Trek back to Chopta, have lunch and depart for Haridwar.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day in hand, you can explore the nearby Deoria Tal lake, which is surrounded by dense forests and offers a tranquil atmosphere. You can also visit the Kedarnath Temple, which is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. To maximize your fun, carry a pair of comfortable shoes, a raincoat, and a water bottle. It is also advisable to carry some snacks as there are limited food options on the trek.
