3-Day Pondicherry Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Aurobindo Ashram
    5 minutes (0.5 miles) from Sri Aurobindo Handmade Paper Factory

    Start your day with a visit to Aurobindo Ashram, established in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo. Spend your morning meditating, learning about Sri Aurobindo's philosophy, and exploring the ashram's peaceful grounds. For lunch, head to Surguru Spot, a vegetarian restaurant famous for its dosas and thalis. In the afternoon, visit the Sri Aurobindo Handmade Paper Factory to learn about paper-making techniques and purchase handmade paper souvenirs. In the evening, watch the sunset at the Promenade Beach and try some street food from the vendors along the beach.

  2. Day 2: Puducherry Museum
    15 minutes (2 miles) from Chunnambar Boat House

    Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Baker Street, a popular bakery and cafe. Then, head to the Puducherry Museum to learn about the history and culture of Puducherry and view exhibits on French colonial life. For lunch, stop by La Pasta World, a cozy Italian restaurant. In the afternoon, take a boat ride from Chunnambar Boat House to Paradise Beach, a secluded beach with crystal clear water. Spend the evening at Auroville, an experimental township focused on sustainable living. Visit the Matrimandir, a unique meditation space, and watch the musical fountain at night.

  3. Day 3: Gingee Fort
    2 hours (70 miles) from Puducherry Botanical Garden

    Start your day early with a packed breakfast and head to Gingee Fort, a 13th-century fort complex with three hilltop forts. It's a long drive, but the view and history make it worthwhile. Bring comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking and climbing of stairs. For lunch, grab a meal at the on-site canteen. Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Paradise Beach for a sunrise yoga session or exploring the French Quarter's colorful streets and boutiques. Take a day trip to Mahabalipuram to see UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Shore Temple. You can also rent a scooter and explore the Tamil Nadu countryside.
