A Day in Lachun

  1. 9:00AM: Kangchenjunga National Park
    10 minutes (1.2 kms) from Lachun Village

    Kangchenjunga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world's third-highest peak. The park is a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts with its diverse flora and fauna. It is also an excellent destination for trekking and hiking.

  2. 11:00AM: Lachung Monastery
    20 minutes (5.5 kms) from Kangchenjunga National Park

    Located on a hilltop overlooking the Lachung River, the Lachung Monastery is a stunning example of Tibetan architecture. The monastery is home to a rare statue of Guru Padmasambhava and is a peaceful place to meditate and reflect.

  3. 1:00PM: Yumthang Valley
    30 minutes (13 kms) from Lachung Monastery

    Also known as the Valley of Flowers, Yumthang Valley is a stunning alpine valley surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The valley is home to several hot springs and is a popular destination for skiing, trekking, and camping.

  4. 3:00PM: Zero Point
    1 hour (26 kms) from Yumthang Valley

    Zero Point is the last outpost of civilization before the Tibet border and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The road to Zero Point is quite rough, but the scenic beauty of the place is worth the effort.

  5. 5:00PM: Chungthang
    1 hour 30 minutes (41 kms) from Zero Point

    Chungthang is a small village on the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung rivers. The village is surrounded by verdant hills and is an excellent place to relax and unwind. The village is also home to the holy Chungthang Lhakhang.

Recommendations

If you have time, don't miss out on visiting the Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world. Another popular side trip is to visit the Kabi Lungchok, a historical site where the treaty of brotherhood between the Lepcha and Bhutia tribes was signed.

Make sure to carry enough cash as there are no ATMs in Lachun.
