3-Day Nature Itinerary for Chikmagalur in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mullayanagiri Peak

    Start your day with a thrilling trek to the Mullayanagiri Peak, the highest peak in Karnataka. The trek is moderately difficult but the panoramic views of the surroundings will be worth it. After reaching the top, take a break and enjoy the breathtaking views of the lush green hills and the Chikmagalur town. In the afternoon, visit the Baba Budangiri Shrine, a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Muslims. The shrine is surrounded by beautiful gardens and provides a tranquil environment for visitors. In the evening, take a leisurely walk along the Kallathigiri Falls and enjoy the stunning view of the waterfall amidst the natural beauty of the region.

  2. Day 2: Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Hebbe Falls
    2 hours (81 km) from Chikmagalur

    Start your day early and head to the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary for an adventurous jungle safari. The sanctuary is home to various species of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, elephants, and many more. After the safari, head towards the Hebbe Falls, a picturesque waterfall cascading from a height of 168 meters. The falls are surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations offering a serene environment for visitors. In the evening, relax with a cup of freshly brewed coffee at one of the nearby coffee estates.

  3. Day 3: Kemmangundi and Z Point

    Start your day with a visit to the Kemmangundi hill station, also known as the 'Ooty of Karnataka'. The hill station is surrounded by lush green forests and offers a pleasant climate throughout the year. Take a stroll through the beautiful gardens, visit the historic Raj Bhavan and enjoy the panoramic views of the Western Ghats. In the afternoon, head towards the Z Point, a popular trekking spot in the Kemmangundi hill range. The trek is challenging but the stunning views of the sunset from the peak will make it worth the effort. In the evening, return to Chikmagalur and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the many restaurants in the town.

Recommendations

If you have time, do not miss the opportunity to explore the coffee plantations in the region. You can also visit the Kudremukh National Park, which is a beautiful natural reserve, around 90 km from Chikmagalur. For adventure enthusiasts, river rafting in the Bhadra River and rock climbing in the Baba Budangiri hills are highly recommended.
