Family-Friendly Itinerary for Shirdi in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Shirdi Sai Baba Temple
    5 minutes (0.3 miles) from Sun-n-Sand Shirdi

    In the morning, visit the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in India. The temple is dedicated to Sai Baba of Shirdi, who is revered by both Hindus and Muslims. You can attend the morning aarti (prayer ceremony) which starts at 4:30 AM. After a breakfast break, visit the Wet N' Joy Water Park for some water fun. In the evening, head to Lendi Baug, a serene garden famous for its neem tree which Sai Baba used to sit under for meditation.

  2. Day 2: Dwarkamai Mosque and Shani Shingnapur
    30 minutes (16.6 miles) from Sun-n-Sand Shirdi

    Start the day by visiting the Dwarkamai Mosque, which served as Sai Baba's residence for almost 60 years. The mosque has two rooms, one where Sai Baba slept and the other where he received his visitors. Afterward, head to Shani Shingnapur, a village famous for its Shani temple. The temple is unique as it has a self-manifested idol of Lord Shani and no door or locks. In the evening, visit the Dixit Wada Museum, which has a collection of Baba's personal belongings and photographs.

  3. Day 3: Sai Heritage Village and Shri Saibaba Sansthan Temple
    10 minutes (3.2 miles) from Sun-n-Sand Shirdi

    Start the day by visiting Sai Heritage Village, which showcases the life and teachings of Sai Baba through life-size statues. Afterward, head to the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Temple, one of the largest temples in India. The temple has a museum, library, and a hospital. In the evening, go to the Sai Teerth Theme Park, which has rides and attractions based on the life and teachings of Sai Baba.

Recommendations

Other local attractions worth considering are the Khandoba Temple, Upasani Maharaj Ashram, and the Samadhi Mandir. A side trip to the Ellora Caves can also be arranged. To maximize your fun, try attending a Sai Baba bhajan or kirtan, which are devotional songs dedicated to Sai Baba. Don't forget to try the local delicacies such as peda, kachori, and poha.
