Relaxing 4-Day Itinerary for Kedarnath in November 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    Located in Kedarnath
    Distance from Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun: 238 km (approx. 8 hours)
    Distance from Kedarnath Helipad: 1.5 km (approx. 10 mins)

    In the morning, visit the Kedarnath Temple, an ancient and revered Hindu shrine located amidst the Himalayas. The temple is open from 6 am to 2 pm, so make sure to arrive early to avoid the crowds. After lunch, take a relaxing walk around Kedarnath town and enjoy the stunning views of the mountains. In the evening, attend the evening aarti ceremony at the temple for a spiritual experience.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal Lake
    Located in Sonprayag, Kedarnath
    Distance from Kedarnath: 7 km (approx. 2 hours trek)

    In the morning, take a trek to the Vasuki Tal Lake, one of the highest altitude lakes in the country. The trek is a bit challenging but the views of the surrounding peaks and the crystal-clear lake are worth it. Spend the afternoon picnicking by the lake and taking in the serene surroundings. Head back to Kedarnath in the evening for a cozy dinner.

  3. Day 3: Gaurikund
    Located in Gaurikund, Kedarnath
    Distance from Kedarnath: 16 km (approx. 1 hour by taxi)

    Take a day trip to Gaurikund, a small town situated on the banks of the Mandakini River. Here, you can take a dip in the hot water springs, which are believed to have medicinal properties. Gaurikund is also the starting point for the Kedarnath trek, so you can meet other trekkers and learn more about the trekking experience. Spend the evening exploring the local markets and sampling some of the regional delicacies.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary
    Located in Uttarakhand
    Distance from Kedarnath: 22 km (approx. 1 hour by taxi)

    On your last day, visit the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, a biodiversity hotspot and home to numerous endangered species. Take a guided tour through the sanctuary and spot animals like musk deer, snow leopard, and Himalayan black bear. If you have extra time, you can also take a trek to Madhmaheshwar Temple, which is located inside the sanctuary. Return to Kedarnath in the evening for a farewell dinner.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit the nearby town of Guptkashi, which is home to the ancient Vishwanath Temple. You can also take a helicopter ride to get a bird's eye view of the beautiful Himalayan landscape. To maximize your fun, make sure to pack comfortable shoes and warm clothes as the weather can be unpredictable in November. Lastly, don't forget to taste the local cuisine, which is a unique blend of Garhwal and Kumaon flavors.
