4-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Goa in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the Streets of Panaji
    30 minutes (15.4 km) from Dabolim Airport

    In the morning, take a walk around the Fontainhas neighbourhood to see the beautiful Portuguese-style houses and colourful streets. For lunch, head to Viva Panjim for some authentic Goan food. Spend the afternoon at the Goa State Museum to learn about the state's rich history and culture. In the evening, go to Miramar Beach to watch the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Visit the Temples and Churches of Ponda
    40 minutes (28.3 km) from Panaji

    In the morning, visit the Shri Manguesh Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Shri Mahalasa Narayani Temple, dedicated to the goddess Mahalasa. For lunch, stop at the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple for some delicious vegetarian food. Spend the afternoon at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Se Cathedral. In the evening, take a stroll along the Mandovi River and enjoy the views.

  3. Day 3: Relax on the Beaches of South Goa
    50 minutes (36.3 km) from Ponda

    Start your day at Colva Beach, one of South Goa's most popular beaches. Have lunch at one of the shacks along the beach. In the afternoon, head to Palolem Beach to enjoy the calm waters and scenic views. If you have time, visit the Cabo de Rama Fort for some history and more views. In the evening, head back to Colva Beach for some nightlife at the shacks.

  4. Day 4: Spice Plantation and Dudhsagar Waterfall
    2 hours (65 km) from South Goa

    Start your day with a visit to a spice plantation near Ponda to learn about the spices and herbs used in Goan cooking. Have lunch at the plantation. In the afternoon, take a trip to the Dudhsagar Waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in India. If you're feeling adventurous, take a dip in the pool below. In the evening, return to your hotel and pack for your departure.

Recommendations

Other places worth considering include the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Fort Aguada, and the beaches of North Goa. Side trips to Gokarna in Karnataka and Hampi in Karnataka are also great options. To maximise your fun, try some water sports at the beaches, take a sunset cruise on the Mandovi River, and attend a live music performance at a local bar. Make sure to try some of the local seafood, especially the fish curry and rice. Finally, always negotiate prices with taxi drivers and vendors to get the best deals.
