Explore Madikeri in 3 Days

  1. Day 1: Madikeri Fort
    10 minutes (1 km) from Madikeri Bus Stand

    In the morning, visit the Madikeri Fort, built-in 17th century. The fort has a museum and a temple inside. The museum showcases artifacts and weapons used by the Kodavas during the British era. Afterward, head to Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden with a panoramic view of the hills. In the evening, spend your time shopping at the local bazaar where you can find handmade crafts and spices.

  2. Day 2: Abbey Falls
    30 minutes (7.5 km) from Madikeri Fort

    Start your day with a visit to Abbey Falls, a beautiful waterfalls surrounded by coffee, pepper, and cardamom plantations. Afterward, head to the Omkareshwara Temple, a famous Hindu temple built-in 1820. The temple has a mix of Islamic and Gothic architecture. In the evening, visit the Mercara Gold Estate Coffee Plantation to learn about coffee processing and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

  3. Day 3: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour 15 minutes (31 km) from Abbey Falls

    On the last day, visit Dubare Elephant Camp, a forest camp on the banks of the river Cauvery. Enjoy an elephant ride, learn about elephant training, and watch the elephants take a bath. Afterward, head to the Talakaveri Temple, the birthplace of the river Cauvery. The temple is located on a hill and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills. In the evening, visit the Mandalpatti viewpoint, located in the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. The view of the sunset from the viewpoint is breathtaking.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can also visit the Nagarhole National Park, famous for its wildlife and bird watching. You can also take a day trip to Coorg, a popular hill station nearby. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, especially the Pandi curry, a pork dish that is a specialty in Coorg.
