Discovering Mantralaya in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Shri Siddhivinayak Temple
9 minutes (2.6 km) from Dadar Railway Station

In the morning, visit the famous Shri Siddhivinayak Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. This temple has a gold-plated roof and a beautiful idol of Lord Ganesha. Afterward, you can head to the Dadar Flower Market, which is close to the temple. It is one of the most significant wholesale flower markets in Mumbai, and you can witness the hustle and bustle of traders selling and buying flowers. In the evening, head to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link bridge, which offers a stunning view of the sunset over the Arabian Sea.

  2. Day 2: Gateway of India
20 minutes (10.5 km) from Shri Siddhivinayak Temple

Start your day by visiting the iconic Gateway of India, a must-see attraction in Mumbai. It was built in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai. From there, take a boat ride to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caves are located on Elephanta Island and are famous for their rock-cut temples, which date back to the 5th century. Spend your afternoon exploring the caves and learning about their history. In the evening, head to Marine Drive, a 3.6 km-long boulevard along the Arabian Sea, for a relaxed sunset walk.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, consider visiting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most historic railway stations in India. You can also explore the Colaba Causeway market and try some street food. If you want to take a break from the city, consider taking a day trip to Lonavala, a hill station situated 83 km from Mumbai.

To maximize your fun, try to experience the local train ride during non-peak hours. It is an affordable and unique way to travel and experience the city's daily commute. Make sure to try some local street food like Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, and Bhelpuri, which are famous in Mumbai.
