7-Day Itinerary for Ujjain in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Ujjain Junction Railway Station

    Visit the most revered temple of Lord Shiva, the Mahakaleshwar Temple. Attend the morning aarti followed by breakfast. Later explore the ancient temple and learn about its history. In the evening, attend the Bhasma Aarti, a unique ritual performed only in this temple.

  2. Day 2: Kal Bhairav Temple, Vedh Shala Observatory, and Kaliadeh Palace
    20 minutes (4 km) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Kal Bhairav Temple. Afterward, head to the Vedh Shala Observatory, an ancient astronomical observatory built by King Jai Singh II. In the evening, head to Kaliadeh Palace, located on the banks of the Shipra River, and witness a beautiful sunset.

  3. Day 3: Sandipani Ashram and ISKCON Temple
    30 minutes (9.5 km) from Kaliadeh Palace

    Visit the Sandipani Ashram, where Lord Krishna and Sudama are said to have studied together. Later, head to the ISKCON temple to attend the morning aarti and partake in the prasad. Spend the afternoon exploring the temple and its surroundings.

  4. Day 4: Harsiddhi Temple and Gadkalika Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Harsiddhi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India. Later, head to the Gadkalika Temple, an ancient temple of Goddess Kali. In the evening, dine at one of the nearby restaurants serving local delicacies.

  5. Day 5: Mangalnath Temple and Bhartrihari Caves
    30 minutes (7.5 km) from Gadkalika Temple

    Visit the Mangalnath Temple, located on the banks of the Shipra River. It is believed to be the birthplace of Mars according to Hindu mythology. Later, head to the Bhartrihari Caves, where the renowned philosopher and poet Bhartrihari is said to have meditated.

  6. Day 6: Vikram Kirti Mandir and Kalidas Academy
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from Bhartrihari Caves

    Visit the Vikram Kirti Mandir, a museum dedicated to the life and times of King Vikramaditya. Also, visit the nearby Kalidas Academy, where you can learn about the famous poet and playwright Kalidas. In the evening, head to the nearby street market for some shopping.

  7. Day 7: Unforgettable Ujjain City Tour
    20 minutes (4.8 km) from Kalidas Academy

    Take a guided city tour of Ujjain to explore some of the city's hidden gems. Visit the Chintaman Ganesh Temple, Kshipra River, and the Mahakal Forest Reserve, a lush green sanctuary teeming with wildlife. In the evening, return to the Mahakaleshwar Temple to witness the night aarti and bid farewell to Ujjain.
