Exploring Gujarat in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Ahmedabad
    15 minutes (5 miles) from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport

    Start your day with a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram, the former residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Here you will see his personal belongings, including his spinning wheel. Afterward, head to the Adalaj Stepwell, a five-story water tank built in 1499. Finally, visit the Akshardham Temple, known for its intricate carvings and beautiful architecture.

  2. Day 2: Dwarka
    7 hours (425 miles) from Ahmedabad

    Visit the Dwarkadhish Temple, a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. Next, take a boat ride to Bet Dwarka island, where you can see the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple and the Rukmini Devi Temple. In the evening, take a walk on Dwarka Beach and watch the sunset.

  3. Day 3: Somnath
    4 hours (210 miles) from Dwarka

    Visit the Somnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Take a stroll through the nearby Triveni Sangam, where three rivers meet. In the evening, attend the light and sound show at the temple.

  4. Day 4: Vadodara
    8.5 hours (430 miles) from Somnath

    Visit the Laxmi Vilas Palace, a grand 19th-century palace with impressive architecture. Next, head to the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, which houses a collection of artifacts from India's rich history. In the evening, take a walk in the Sayaji Baug, a large garden with a zoo, museums, and an aquarium.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Rani ki Vav Stepwell in Patan and the Gir Forest National Park, which is home to Asiatic lions. Additionally, try some of Gujarat's famous dishes, such as dhokla, fafda, and khandvi.
