Nature Lover's 5-Day Itinerary for Spiti Valley in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Chandigarh to Shimla
    4 hours 20 minutes (115 km) from Chandigarh

    In the morning, start your journey from Chandigarh to Shimla. After reaching Shimla, spend the afternoon taking a leisurely stroll around The Ridge. This spacious open space offers panoramic views of the mountains. In the evening, visit the Christ Church, the second oldest church in North India.

  2. Day 2: Shimla to Sangla
    6 hours 27 minutes (225 km) from Shimla

    Start early for the scenic drive to Sangla. In the morning, visit the Kamru Fort which is an ancient fort with a scenic view of the Sangla Valley. Spend the afternoon walking around the Sangla village and exploring the nearby apple orchards. In the evening, visit the Bering Nag Temple which is a popular religious site in the region.

  3. Day 3: Sangla to Kalpa

    On the third day, drive to Kalpa. In the morning, visit the Chaka Meadows and spend some time amidst the beautiful apple orchards.   4. Day 4: Kalpa to Kaza

    On the fourth day, drive to Kaza. In the morning, visit the Key Monastery which is a magnificent Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Spend the afternoon exploring the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to the snow leopard and other rare animals. In the evening, visit the Kaza Market and buy some souvenirs.

  5. Day 5: Kaza to Chandigarh
    11 hours 9 minutes (520 km) from Kaza

    On the final day, start early for the long drive back to Chandigarh. En route, visit the Pin Valley National Park which is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. Spend the afternoon exploring the Chandigarh city. In the evening, visit the Rock Garden which is a beautiful sculpture garden made out of industrial and urban waste.

Recommendations

You may consider visiting the Dhankar Monastery and the Chandratal Lake if time permits. For side trips, you can visit the nearby town of Manali or take a trek to the Hampta Pass. To maximize your fun, try local cuisines such as Channa Madra, Sidu, and Tudkiya Bhath.
