Croatia’s capital city, Zagreb, is a great place to start your short break. Begin by exploring Ban Jelačić Square, where you find both historic and modern buildings. Make a trip to the unique Museum of Broken Relationships to see fascinating exhibits detailing heartbreak stories from all over the world. End your day with a visit to the St. Mark's Church, perhaps Zagreb's most famous landmark.
Take a scenic drive through Croatia's beautiful countryside and arrive at Split, a charming coastal town. Start by admiring the impressive Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk around the historic old town to discover hidden side streets lined with bars and cafes. Cool down with a dip in the Adriatic Sea at Bacvice Beach, a popular local destination.
In the morning, drive down to Dubrovnik, the stunning coastal city known famously as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic'. In the heart of the walled city lies Placa Stradun, a lively pedestrian street that's perfect for people watching. Take a leisurely stroll along the walls of Dubrovnik Old Town and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Check out the picturesque Fort Lovrijenac, an ancient fortress which overlooks the city and the Adriatic Sea.
While travelling between cities, the most comfortable and efficient mode of transportation is by car or bus. A recommended route is to rent a car for the full duration of your trip. A car rental in Croatia costs around 245 HRK (USD 39) per day with unlimited mileage that also includes basic insurance. It is also possible to travel by a luxury private transfer but it is more expensive. Public transport is also available but travelling long distances can be tiring.
If you have more time, you can explore the beautiful natural areas and beaches along the Croatian coast and islands. Alternatively, if you have less time, you could skip Split if it doesn’t interest you and extend your time in Dubrovnik or Zagreb.
The main airport in Croatia is the Zagreb International Airport (ZAG). It is located 12 km away from Zagreb’s city center.
