5-Day City Experience Itinerary for Goa in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Basilica of Bom Jesus
    30 minutes (12.3 miles) from Dabolim Airport

    In the morning, visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest churches in India, to marvel at the Baroque architecture and the preserved remains of Saint Francis Xavier. For lunch, head to the nearby Black Sheep Bistro, known for its fusion cuisine. In the afternoon, take a walk through Fontainhas, the Latin Quarter of Panaji, known for its colourful Portuguese-style homes. In the evening, watch the sunset at Miramar Beach.

  2. Day 2: Fort Aguada
    30 minutes (8.5 miles) from Panaji

    In the morning, visit Fort Aguada, a 17th-century Portuguese fort and lighthouse, to learn about its role in protecting Goa from Dutch and Maratha invasions. For lunch, head to Souza Lobo, a beachside restaurant known for its authentic Goan seafood dishes. In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll through the Mapusa Market, one of Goa's oldest and busiest markets. In the evening, catch a movie at Inox Mall in Porvorim.

  3. Day 3: Museum of Christian Art
    20 minutes (6.3 miles) from Mapusa Market

    In the morning, visit the Museum of Christian Art, located in the Convent of Santa Monica, to see its collection of Indo-Portuguese Christian art and artefacts. For lunch, head to Gunpowder, a rustic restaurant in Assagao, known for its traditional Goan and Indian cuisine. In the afternoon, take a guided tour of the Sahakari Spice Farm in Ponda to learn about the cultivation and processing of aromatic spices. In the evening, dance the night away at Club Cubana, a popular nightclub in Arpora.

  4. Day 4: Old Goa
    30 minutes (9.7 miles) from Club Cubana

    In the morning, explore Old Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see its colonial-era churches, including the Se Cathedral and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. For lunch, head to Vinayak Family Restaurant, a popular eatery known for its thalis and local delicacies. In the afternoon, take a river cruise on the Mandovi River to see the colourful houses and scenic hills of Goa from a different perspective. In the evening, watch a live music performance at Cafe Mojo Pub & Bistro in Panaji.

  5. Day 5: Anjuna Flea Market
    40 minutes (11.8 miles) from Cafe Mojo Pub & Bistro

    In the morning, visit the Anjuna Flea Market, held every Wednesday, to shop for souvenirs, clothes, jewellery, and handicrafts. For lunch, head to Thirsty Bear, a microbrewery in Calangute, known for its craft beers and pub grub. In the afternoon, hit the beach at Calangute and indulge in water sports such as parasailing and jet skiing. In the evening, take a sunset walk on Baga Beach and unwind with a cocktail at Tito's Lane.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, consider visiting the Dudhsagar Waterfalls, located on the border of Goa and Karnataka. You can also take a day trip to the neighbouring state of Maharashtra to visit the historic Sindhudurg Fort. To maximize your fun, try to attend a Goan music and dance performance, or take a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Goan dishes such as vindaloo and sorpotel.
