4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Dzukou Valley in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Dzukou Valley Trek
    Starts at Viswema Village
    30 minutes (16.3 km) from the airport

    Start your day with a 5-hour trek to Dzukou Valley. The trail is surrounded by lush forests, waterfalls and streams, providing a beautiful backdrop throughout your journey. There are several rest stops along the way to take in the scenery and rest your legs. Once you reach the top, you will be greeted by stunning views of the valley and its unique flora and fauna. After spending some time exploring the valley, trek back down to Viswema Village where you can relax and enjoy a traditional Naga meal.

  2. Day 2: Explore Kohima
    30 minutes (16.1 km) from Viswema Village

    Start the day early and head to Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. Visit the Kohima War Cemetery, a memorial to the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Kohima during World War II. Next, head over to the Naga Heritage Village, where you can learn about the local culture and traditions. In the evening, check out the local markets for some souvenir shopping and sample some delicious Naga cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Japfu Peak Trek
    1 hour (25.7 km) from Kohima

    Embark on a 6-hour trek to Japfu Peak, one of the highest peaks in Nagaland. The trek is challenging but the stunning views of the surrounding valleys make it worth the effort. On the way, you will pass through dense forests, streams and waterfalls. At the peak, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. After the trek, head to Kisama Heritage Village to learn more about the local culture and traditions.

  4. Day 4: Explore Dzuleke Village
    1 hour 30 minutes (61.7 km) from Japfu Peak

    Start the day early and head to Dzuleke Village, a picturesque village known for its beautiful landscapes and biodiversity. Take a walk around the village and interact with the locals to learn about their way of life. Visit the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary to see some of the unique flora and fauna of the region. If time permits, you can also visit the nearby Puliebadze Wildlife Sanctuary before heading back to Kohima for your flight back home.

You can also visit the Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India, and the Manipur State Museum to learn more about the history and culture of the region. Another option is to visit the nearby Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the one-horned rhinoceros.
