7-Day Itinerary for Uttarakhand: Badrinath, Madmaheshwar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore Dehradun
    30 minutes (14 miles) from Jolly Grant Airport

    Start your day with a visit to the Robber's Cave, a natural cave formation. In the afternoon, visit the Mindrolling Monastery, a beautiful Buddhist temple. In the evening, head to Paltan Bazaar for some shopping and local street food.

  2. Day 2: Badrinath Temple
    7 hours (157 miles) from Dehradun

    Visit the Badrinath Temple, one of the four sacred shrines in Hinduism. Get a glimpse of the Neelkanth Peak and Alaknanda River. In the evening, attend the Aarti ceremony at the temple.

  3. Day 3: Mana Village and Vyas Gufa
    1 hour 30 minutes (25 miles) from Badrinath Temple

    Visit the last village before the India-China border, the Mana Village. After that, head to Vyas Gufa, a cave believed to be the place where Sage Vyas composed the Mahabharata.

  4. Day 4: Madmaheshwar Temple Trek
    6 hours 30 minutes (50 miles) from Badrinath Temple

    Start your trek to Madmaheshwar Temple, one of the Panch Kedar shrines. Trek through lush green forests and scenic views of the Himalayas. On arrival, visit the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

  5. Day 5: Ukhimath and Tungnath Temple Trek
    4 hours 30 minutes (90 miles) from Madmaheshwar Temple

    Visit the winter home of Lord Kedarnath, Ukhimath. After that, start your trek to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas from the temple.

  6. Day 6: Haridwar
    7 hours (150 miles) from Tungnath Temple

    Visit Har Ki Pauri, a ghat on the banks of the Ganges. Attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony in the evening and experience the spiritual atmosphere.

  7. Day 7: Rishikesh
    1 hour (18 miles) from Haridwar

    Visit the Beatles Ashram, where the Beatles stayed in the 60s. Get an adrenaline rush by trying river rafting in the Ganges. Visit the Triveni Ghat in the evening and witness the Ganga Aarti ceremony.

Consider visiting Kedarnath Temple, one of the four sacred shrines in Hinduism, located 4 hours from Dehradun. You can also go on a trek to Kedarnath Temple from Gaurikund. If you have an extra day, visit the Valley of Flowers National Park, known for its meadows of alpine flowers.
