Start your journey with a visit to the Vaishnodevi Temple, one of the most revered sites in India. The temple is situated in the Trikuta Mountains and is dedicated to the Hindu goddess, Vaishnodevi. There are three pindis inside the temple, representing the three forms of the goddess: Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati. The trek up to the temple is a 12 km walk from Katra, but it is well worth it for the breathtaking views and spiritual experience. Don't forget to bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water.
After visiting Vaishnodevi Temple, head to Bhairavnath Temple, which is dedicated to Bhairavnath, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. The temple is located at an altitude of 6610 feet and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The trek to the temple is steep and challenging, but the stunning views along the way are worth the effort. You can also hire ponies or palanquins to reach the temple if you prefer not to walk. Be sure to check the opening and closing times before starting your trek.
On your last day, visit the Ardhkuwari Cave which is believed to be the place where the goddess hid from the demon, Bhairavnath. The cave is located halfway between Katra and the Vaishnodevi Temple, and you can reach it by taking a short detour from the main trek. After visiting the cave, head to Nau Devi Temple, which is dedicated to the nine forms of the goddess. The temple is located on a hill and offers stunning views of the valley below. Be sure to check the opening and closing times before starting your trek.
If you have time, consider visiting the Baba Dhansar Temple, which is located about 12 km from Katra. The temple is situated near a waterfall and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas during their exile. You can also visit the Patnitop hill station, which is located about 80 km from Katra and is known for its scenic beauty and adventure activities. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies like rajma-chawal and khatta meat.
