7-Day Itinerary for Kedarnath and Badrinath in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrival at Dehradun
    30 minutes (15.5 miles) from Dehradun International Airport

    After arriving in Dehradun, travel to Rishikesh and visit the Trimbakeshwar Temple. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony on the banks of the Ganges River.

  2. Day 2: Rishikesh to Guptkashi
    7 hours (135 miles)

    Visit the holy town of Devprayag, the confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers en route to Guptkashi. In the afternoon, take a dip in the hot water springs of Gaurikund.

  3. Day 3: Guptkashi to Kedarnath
    3 hours (20 miles)

    Take a helicopter ride to Kedarnath and visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Spend the day exploring the beautiful surroundings of the temple.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath to Joshimath
    7 hours (120 miles)

    Drive to Joshimath and visit the Narsingh Temple and Shankaracharya Math. In the evening, take a cable car ride to Auli and enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas.

  5. Day 5: Joshimath to Badrinath
    2 hours (34 miles)

    Visit the Badrinath Temple, one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites and take a dip in Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring. In the evening, visit the Mana Village, the last village of India on the Indo-Tibetan border.

  6. Day 6: Badrinath to Rudraprayag
    6 hours (155 miles)

    Drive to Rudraprayag and visit the Koteshwar Mahadev Temple, the temple of Lord Shiva. In the evening, explore the local markets and shop for souvenirs.

  7. Day 7: Rudraprayag to Dehradun
    6 hours (135 miles)

    On the way back to Dehradun, visit the Raghunath Temple in Devprayag. In the evening, explore the local markets and enjoy the local cuisine before departing for your next destination.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, visit the Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site or Hemkund Sahib, a Sikh place of worship. For adventure enthusiasts, try trekking to Vasudhara Falls or Chandrashila.
