Exploring Spiti in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kaza
    4 hours 30 mins (112 km) from Bhuntar Airport

    In the morning, visit the Komic Monastery and witness the breathtaking views of the Spiti valley. In the afternoon, explore the picturesque village of Langza, home to the ancient Lang Temple and a 1000-year-old statue of Lord Buddha. In the evening, enjoy a cup of tea while enjoying the sunset at the Hikkim post office, the highest post office in the world.

  2. Day 2: Kibber
    2 hours 20 mins (20 km) from Kaza

    In the morning, visit the Key Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Spiti and the largest center for Buddhist learning. In the afternoon, drive to the small village of Kibber, famous for its wildlife sanctuary and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary Trek, the most popular trek in the region. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Spitian meal at one of the local restaurants.

  3. Day 3: Pin Valley National Park
    2 hours 20 mins (76 km) from Kibber

    In the morning, visit the Pin Valley National Park, home to the rare snow leopard and Himalayan ibex. In the afternoon, visit the Kungri Monastery, known for its ancient scriptures and a 5-feet tall statue of Lord Buddha. In the evening, relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

  4. Day 4: Dhankar Monastery
    1 hour 30 mins (30 km) from Pin Valley National Park

    In the morning, visit the Dhankar Monastery, perched on a cliff and overlooking the confluence of Spiti and Pin rivers. In the afternoon, visit the Dhankar Lake, a high-altitude lake situated 2 hours trek from the monastery. In the evening, watch the stars and camp overnight near the lake.

  5. Day 5: Tabo
    1 hour 30 mins (45 km) from Dhankar Monastery

    In the morning, visit the Tabo Monastery, the oldest continuously operating Buddhist monument in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, visit the Tabo Caves, known for their ancient paintings and intricate carvings. In the evening, explore the local markets and shop for handicrafts.

  6. Day 6: Mud Village
    1 hour 45 mins (50 km) from Tabo

    In the morning, visit the Gue Monastery, known for its mummified monk and ancient relics. In the afternoon, drive to the Mud Village, one of the remotest villages of Spiti and home to the Pin Valley National Park headquarters. In the evening, stay at a homestay and experience the Spitian way of life.

  7. Day 7: Chandratal Lake
    6 hours (120 km) from Mud Village

    In the morning, drive to the Chandratal Lake, known for its ethereal beauty and surreal landscape. In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic lunch near the lake and take a dip in its crystal clear waters. In the evening, drive back to Manali via the Rohtang Pass.

Don't miss the Spiti Valley Trek, one of the most beautiful treks in the world. For adventure seekers, white water rafting in the Spiti River is a must-try. If you have time, visit the nearby villages of Nako and Kalpa for their stunning views and ancient temples.
