3-Day Lonavala Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Karla Caves
    20 minutes (6.9 miles) from Lonavala

    In the morning, explore the ancient Karla Caves, a complex of Buddhist shrines that date back to 2nd-century BC. Marvel at the intricate rock-cut architecture and the stunning sculptures of Buddha. After lunch, visit the Ekvira Devi Temple, a popular Hindu temple located in a cave.   2. Day 2: Bhaja Caves
    35 minutes (12.5 miles) from Karla Caves

    Start the day early and drive to Bhaja Caves, another complex of ancient Buddhist caves. Admire the stunning architecture and the beautiful carvings. After lunch, visit the Wax Museum in Lonavala which features life-size wax statues of Bollywood stars. In the evening, head to the Bushi Dam for breathtaking views of the waterfalls and the surrounding mountains.

  3. Day 3: Rajmachi Fort
    1 hour 10 minutes (25.9 miles) from Bhaja Caves

    On the last day, take a scenic drive to the Rajmachi Fort, a hill fort that offers stunning views of the Sahyadri Mountains. Trek to the top of the fort and explore the ancient structures. After lunch, head to the Lonavala Square Mall for some shopping and entertainment. In the evening, visit the famous Duke's Nose viewpoint to enjoy a spectacular sunset.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit the Kune Waterfalls, the Lohagad Fort, or the Karjat Caves. For a side trip, you can consider visiting the hill station of Mahabaleshwar or the ancient city of Pune.
