Two-Day Itinerary for Pune in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Shaniwar Wada Fort
    15 minutes (5 miles) from Pune International Airport

    Morning: Start your day at the historic Shaniwar Wada Fort. Built in 1732, this fort showcases the Maratha culture and has a beautiful garden inside. A guided tour is highly recommended to understand the history and significance of this fort.
    Afternoon: Head to MahaLaxmi Temple for a spiritual experience. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity, MahaLaxmi. The temple has a remarkable architecture and is one of the most visited temples in Pune.
    Evening: Visit the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, which houses a rare collection of artifacts and antiques. You can see a wide range of items from musical instruments to antique doors and windows. The museum is closed on Wednesdays.

  2. Day 2: Aga Khan Palace
    20 minutes (7 miles) from Shaniwar Wada Fort

    Morning: Start your day at the Aga Khan Palace, a historical landmark and museum. Built-in 1892, it served as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi and his wife during India's independence struggle. Apart from its historical significance, the palace has a beautiful garden and architecture.
    Afternoon: Visit the National War Museum to pay respects to Indian soldiers and learn about their sacrifices. The museum has a vast collection of weapons, tanks, and aircraft used during various wars.
    Evening: Enjoy a beautiful sunset at the Khadakwasla Dam and enjoy snacks at the nearby restaurants. The dam is an excellent place for photography and offers a serene view of the surroundings.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, don't miss out on visiting the Sinhagad Fort for its breathtaking view. The fort is located around 25 km from Pune. You can also visit the Pataleshwar Cave Temple and Parvati Hill for their historical significance.
Consider visiting nearby hill stations like Lonavala and Khandala for a perfect weekend getaway. Don't forget to try local street foods like vada pav, misal pav, and bhel puri.
Make sure to check weather conditions before planning your trip, as Pune can experience heavy rainfall in July.
