Explore Sri Lanka in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Colombo
    Bandaranaike International Airport is 35 minutes (21.3 km) from the city centre.

    Start your journey in Colombo with a visit to the Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple in the morning. Afternoon can be spent at the National Museum, followed by a walk around Viharamahadevi Park. In the evening, head to the seaside Galle Face Green promenade for street food and a beautiful sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Kandy
    Kandy is 2 hours (115 km) from Colombo.

    Visit the iconic Temple of the Tooth in the morning, followed by a walk around the Kandy Lake. In the afternoon, take a trip to Peradeniya Botanic Gardens. In the evening, watch a Kandyan dance performance before heading back to your hotel.

  3. Day 3: Nuwara Eliya
    Nuwara Eliya is 2 hours 45 minutes (81.9 km) from Kandy.

  4. Day 4: Ella

  5. Day 5: Yala National Park
    Yala National Park is 2 hours 30 minutes (86.6 km) from Ella.

    Take a morning jeep safari at Yala National Park and see the majestic wildlife. In the afternoon, relax at one of the nearby beaches. In the evening, head back to your hotel and enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan meal.

  6. Day 6: Mirissa
    Mirissa is 1 hour 30 minutes (45.7 km) from Yala National Park.

    Take a morning whale watching tour from Mirissa Harbor and spot the magnificent blue whales. In the afternoon, visit the Parrot Rock and enjoy a swim at the beach. In the evening, head to one of the beachfront restaurants for dinner and drinks.

  7. Day 7: Galle
    Galle is 1 hour (37.8 km) from Mirissa.

    Start your day with a visit to the Galle Fort and the Dutch Reformed Church. In the afternoon, take a trip to the Unawatuna Beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery. In the evening, explore the local markets and indulge in some souvenir shopping.

Recommendations

Consider visiting Sigiriya Rock Fortress or Dambulla Cave Temple for a day trip from Kandy. You can also take a scenic train ride from Ella to Kandy. Make sure to try the local cuisine, including rice and curry, kottu roti and hoppers. And don't forget to take a relaxing Ayurvedic spa treatment.
