Takachiho Gorge is a stunning natural landmark with a beautiful river flowing through a narrow gorge. Take a boat ride, hike along the river or simply admire the picturesque views. You can also visit the impressive Takachiho Shrine and the nearby Amano Iwato Shrine, both are must-sees.
The best way to get around Miyazaki is by car. Rental cars are available at the airport and in Miyazaki City, and are reasonably priced. Driving time from Miyazaki airport to Miyazaki City is approximately 25 minutes and from Miyazaki City to Aoshima Island is 25 minutes. Driving time from Miyazaki City to Takachiho Gorge is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.
If you have more time, make sure to visit Udo Shrine, a beautiful shrine built into the side of a cliff, and Kirishima Jingu Shrine, a magnificent complex of shrines and torii gates surrounded by wooded hills. If you have less time, skip Aoshima Island and spend more time exploring Takachiho Gorge.
