5-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Meghaloy in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Umiam Lake
    30 minutes (15.9 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, enjoy a serene boat ride on the picturesque Umiam Lake. After lunch, explore the Lum Nehru Park and take a walk around the lake. In the evening, head back to Shillong and enjoy a delicious dinner at Dylan's Cafe.

  2. Day 2: Elephant Falls

    In the morning, visit the beautiful Elephant Falls and take a refreshing dip in the natural pool. After lunch, explore the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures to learn about the local heritage and traditions. In the evening, head to Police Bazaar for some shopping and street food.

  3. Day 3: Mawlynnong Village
    2 hours 30 minutes (90.1 km) from Shillong

    Spend the day in the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong. In the morning, explore the bamboo treehouses and take a walk around the village. After lunch, head to the Living Root Bridge in Riwai and take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. In the evening, head back to Shillong for a traditional Khasi dinner at Jadoh.

  4. Day 4: Dawki River

    In the morning, take a drive to Dawki and explore the breathtaking Umngot River. Take a boat ride and witness the amazing clear water, so much so that one can see the riverbed through it. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then head to the Bangladesh border for a quick stop. In the evening, head back to Shillong and enjoy a delicious dinner at City Hut Dhaba.

  5. Day 5: Shillong Peak
    30 minutes (11.2 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the highest point in Shillong, the Shillong Peak. Enjoy the panoramic view of the city and take a walk around the park. After lunch, head to the beautiful Wards Lake and enjoy boating. In the evening, head back to town and enjoy a delicious dinner at Bamboo Hut.

Don't miss the chance to taste the famous Khasi cuisine, especially Jadoh and Dohneiiong. Also, consider taking a day trip to Cherrapunji, which is known as the wettest place on earth. You can also plan a trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat if you have an extra day. Finally, make sure to attend the Autumn Festival if you're visiting in November.
