Four-Day Adventure Itinerary in Arunachal Pradesh - September 2023

  1. Day 1: Tawang
    6 hours 30 minutes (185 km) from Tezpur

    Begin your adventure in Tawang, a picturesque town nestled in the Himalayas. In the morning, visit the Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and an important center of Tibetan Buddhism. In the afternoon, head to the Sela Pass, a high-altitude mountain pass with breathtaking views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and crystal-clear lakes. Finish the day with a visit to the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, a tribute to an Indian soldier who fought in the Indo-China War.

  2. Day 2: Dirang

    Start your day with a visit to the Sangti Valley, a scenic valley known for its apple orchards and bird-watching opportunities. After lunch, head to the Dirang Dzong, a 400-year-old fort that overlooks the Dirang Valley. Hike to the hot springs in the evening, and unwind in the natural hot water baths.

  3. Day 3: Namdapha National Park
    8 hours (240 km) from Dirang

    Embark on a thrilling wildlife adventure in the Namdapha National Park. Home to tigers, leopards, bears, elephants, and many more exotic wildlife species, Namdapha is a wildlife enthusiast's paradise. In the morning, take a trek to the Deban Village, and explore the rainforest. In the evening, go on a night safari to spot nocturnal animals.

  4. Day 4: Ziro
    11 hours (340 km) from Namdapha National Park

    Explore the unique culture of the Apatani tribe in Ziro. In the morning, visit the Tarin Fish Farm, a hatchery for the native Golden Mahseer fish. After lunch, visit the Apatani villages and learn about their sustainable agricultural practices, unique architecture, and traditional festivals. End the day with a visit to the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, a biodiversity hotspot with rare species such as the clouded leopard and the Himalayan black bear.

Recommendations

Consider visiting the Bhalukpong and Bomdila towns on your way to Tawang. You can also take a detour from Dirang to the Zemithang valley, a remote valley that is home to the Monpa tribe. For thrill-seekers, try river rafting in the Kameng River or rock climbing in the Gorichen Peak.
