Two-Day Itinerary for Tiruvannamalai in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Arunachalesvara Temple
    10 minutes (1.3 miles) from Tiruvannamalai Bus Stand

    The Arunachalesvara Temple is a must-visit for anyone coming to Tiruvannamalai. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the largest temples in India. In the morning, you can explore the temple complex and witness the morning rituals of the priests. In the afternoon, visit the temple museum to learn about the temple's history and architecture. In the evening, take part in the aarti ceremony and witness the temple beautifully lit up.

  2. Day 2: Girivalam
    15 minutes (2.5 miles) from Arunachalesvara Temple

    Girivalam is a famous walking pilgrimage of 14 km around the holy Arunachala Hill. The circumference of the hill is believed to be the length of Lord Shiva's shadow. Start early in the morning, and complete the walk during the day. There is a fantastic view of the city and the surrounding hills from the top of the hill. In the afternoon, visit the Sri Ramanasramam and stay for their evening puja ceremony. End the day by enjoying dinner at the nearby restaurant, Shree Saravana Bhavan.

Recommendations

Be sure to visit the Seshadri Swamigal Ashram, located 10 minutes (1.2 miles) from the Arunachalesvara Temple. You can also take a day trip to the Gingee Fort, located 1 hour and 30 minutes (61.5 km) from Tiruvannamalai.

To make the most out of your trip, consider staying in Tiruvannamalai for at least three days. Some other notable places to visit are Virupaksha Cave, Skandashramam, and Yogi Ramsuratkumar Ashram.
