    4 hours (125km) from Leh

Drive to Nubra Valley, a high-altitude desert known for its sand dunes and Bactrian camels. Visit the Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the valley, and see the 32-metre statue of Maitreya Buddha. In the afternoon, ride a double-humped camel in the sand dunes and experience the desert landscape. Spend the night in a traditional homestay in the valley.

  3. Day 3: Pangong Tso Lake
5 hours (160km) from Nubra Valley

Head to Pangong Tso Lake, a stunning high-altitude lake that stretches from India to Tibet. Marvel at the changing colours of the lake throughout the day. Take a walk around the lake and soak in the beauty of the Himalayan peaks. Spend the night in a lakeside camp and stargaze under the clear skies.

  4. Day 4: Alchi Monastery
3 hours (70km) from Pangong Tso Lake

Drive to Alchi Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique Kashmiri-style murals. Admire the intricate artwork that dates back to the 11th century and learn about the history of Buddhism in the region. In the afternoon, visit the Basgo Monastery, a hilltop fortress that offers stunning views of the valley. Return to Leh for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Recommendations

Don't miss the chance to go whitewater rafting on the Zanskar River or trek to the stunning Markha Valley. For a side trip, consider visiting the remote village of Turtuk, which was opened to tourists only in 2010. To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine at small food stalls in Leh and shop for souvenirs at the Leh Bazaar. We suggest you stay hydrated and acclimatise to the high altitude before undertaking any adventurous activity.
