Three-Day "City Experiences" Itinerary for Bhopal in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the Heritage of Bhopal
    15 minutes (3.4 miles) from Bhopal Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, stroll through the scenic beauty of Van Vihar National Park, which is home to a variety of animals, birds and plants. In the afternoon, visit the famous Shaukat Mahal, a blend of Indo-Islamic and European architectural styles. Then, head to the Bharat Bhavan, a prominent multi-arts centre, which has a museum, art galleries, and a performing arts theatre. In the evening, visit the Taj-ul-Masajid, one of the largest mosques in India, and witness the beautiful sunset.

  2. Day 2: Temples and Lakes
    20 minutes (6.8 miles) from Taj-ul-Masajid

    Begin your morning by visiting the Birla Mandir, an ancient temple built by the Birla family. Afterwards, head to the beautiful Upper Lake, where you can enjoy boating and the scenic views of the surrounding hills. In the afternoon, explore the serene Lower Lake and visit the Kamla Park and Zoo. In the evening, enjoy a mesmerising view of the sunset at the Bhadbhada Dam.

  3. Day 3: Local Market and Museums
    25 minutes (7.5 miles) from Bhadbhada Dam

    Spend your morning at Chowk Bazaar, the local market, and indulge in some street food and shopping. In the afternoon, visit the State Museum of Madhya Pradesh, which houses artefacts and exhibits from the state's rich history. Later, head to the Tribal Museum to discover the diverse cultural heritage of the indigenous tribes of Madhya Pradesh. In the evening, visit the Gauhar Mahal, a beautiful palace built during the reign of the Nawabs of Bhopal.

Recommendations

Don't miss visiting the Sanchi Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest Buddhist structures in India. A day trip to Bhimbetka rock shelters is also recommended, which houses ancient cave paintings and artefacts.
