Two-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Srisailam in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple
    5 minutes (0.5 km) from Srisailam Bus Station

    Morning: Start your cultural immersion by visiting the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Marvel at the intricate carvings of the temple that dates back to the 7th century. It is believed that the temple was built by the King Harihara I of Vijayanagara Empire. Catch the morning aarti at 4:30 AM to witness the enchanting rituals.
    Afternoon: Head to the Sakshi Ganapati Temple, which is en route to the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple. The temple is known for its exquisite architecture and the trunk of the idol is turned towards the right side, which is considered to be very rare.
    Evening: Visit the Bhramaramba Devi Temple, one of the 18 Shakti Peethas in India. The temple is situated on the banks of River Krishna and the presiding deity is in the form of a bee.

  2. Day 2: Srisailam Dam
    30 minutes (16 km) from Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

    Morning: Begin your day with a visit to the Srisailam Dam, one of the largest dams in India. The dam is built across the Krishna River and is surrounded by lush green forests. Take a walk on the dam and enjoy the breathtaking view of the reservoir.
    Afternoon: Head to the Akkamahadevi Caves, which are located on the other side of the Krishna River. The caves are named after a saint who is believed to have meditated here. The caves are natural formations and are said to be over 150 million years old.
    Evening: End your two-day cultural immersion at the Patala Ganga, which is situated at the foot of the Srisailam Hill. Take a dip in the holy waters and seek blessings from the presiding deity, Lord Shiva.

If you have extra time, you can consider visiting the Akka Mahadevi Temple, which is located near the Akka Mahadevi Caves. You can also take a boat ride in the Krishna River and enjoy the scenic beauty of the place.
If you are interested in wildlife, you can visit the Srisailam Tiger Reserve, which is home to a variety of animals and birds.
For a side trip, you can visit the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which is located about 90 km from Srisailam. The dam is built across the Krishna River and is a popular tourist destination.
