Volunteering Itinerary for Himavadh Gopalswamy Betta, Bandipura, Male Madeswara, and Ooty in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Himavadh Gopalswamy Betta
    2 hours 45 minutes (85 miles) from Bangalore

    In the morning, we will start our journey to Himavadh Gopalswamy Betta, a place known for its beautiful natural landscapes and religious significance. Here, we will be volunteering at a local orphanage and helping the children with their daily activities. In the afternoon, we will take a short hike to the Gopalswamy temple and learn about its history. In the evening, we will enjoy a campfire and dinner under the stars.

  2. Day 2: Bandipura
    2 hours 40 minutes (92 miles) from Himavadh Gopalswamy Betta

    Today, we will be volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary in Bandipura. Here, we will be helping with the rehabilitation of injured animals and educating visitors about wildlife conservation. In the afternoon, we will take a jeep safari and try to spot some of the sanctuary's famous tigers and elephants. In the evening, we will relax at a nearby resort and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

  3. Day 3: Male Madeswara
    2 hours 15 minutes (70 miles) from Bandipura

    Today, we will be volunteering at a local school in Male Madeswara. Here, we will be helping the teachers with their daily tasks and teaching the children about our culture. In the afternoon, we will visit the Male Madeswara temple and learn about its significance. In the evening, we will enjoy a traditional dinner with the locals and learn more about their way of life.

  4. Day 4: Ooty
    4 hours (130 miles) from Male Madeswara

    Today, we will be volunteering at a local NGO in Ooty. Here, we will be helping with their various projects and learning about the issues faced by the local community. In the afternoon, we will take a ride on the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway and enjoy the scenic views. In the evening, we will visit the Ooty lake and enjoy a boat ride before heading back to our hotel.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Nagarhole National Park in Bandipura or take a day trip to Coonoor from Ooty. You can also explore the local markets and try some of the delicious South Indian street food. To make the most of your trip, don't forget to carry comfortable clothes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
