Exploring Tunganath Valley of Flowers in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Joshimath
    From Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun: 8 hours (266.7 km)

    Upon arrival at Joshimath, check-in to your hotel and take some rest. Later, you can explore the local market and taste some delicious Garhwali cuisine. In the evening, enjoy the beautiful sunset view of Nanda Devi from your hotel room.

  2. Day 2: Auli
    Distance from Joshimath: 15 minutes (3.3 km)

    Start your day with a delicious breakfast and drive to Auli. Enjoy the scenic beauty of Auli while taking a cable car ride to the Auli hilltop. Visit the artificial lake and the ski resort. After lunch, take a trek to the Gurso Bugyal and enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas. Return to Joshimath for the night.

  3. Day 3: Tunganath
    Distance from Joshimath: 3 hours (69.7 km)

    Start your day early and drive to Chopta, the starting point of the trek to Tunganath. The 4 km trek is easy and surrounded by lush green forests and beautiful meadows. Visit the Tunganath temple, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world, and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Himalayan ranges. Later, trek for another 1.5 km to reach Chandrashila, which offers a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Return to Chopta for the night.

  4. Day 4: Departure
    From Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun: 8 hours (266.7 km)

    After breakfast, check-out from the hotel and drive back to Dehradun for your journey back home.

Recommendations

If you have some extra days to spare, you can go for a day trip to Hemkund Sahib, surrounded by seven snow-capped mountains or visit the Badrinath temple. You can also enjoy adventure activities like river rafting and bungee jumping in Rishikesh. To maximize your fun, try to plan your trip during the Valley of Flowers Festival, which usually takes place in the first week of July.
