Marina beach is one of the most popular and scenic spots in Chennai. Start your day with a walk along the 13 Km long shoreline in the morning. The beach is open 24/7, so you can visit at any time. You can then head to some of the nearby cafes for breakfast. Spend your afternoon visiting the Chennai Rail Museum that is just 20 minutes (4.7 km) away. The museum has a vast collection of railway exhibits, models and artefacts. In the evening, head over to the Skyloft, which is a rooftop bar known for its stunning views of the city skyline and signature cocktails.
On day two, we recommend taking a day trip to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is known for its impressive collection of ancient monuments and temples. Start your morning with a visit to the Shore Temple that is situated right next to the beach. It is a structural masterpiece, and you can learn about the history of the temple with an audio guide. After exploring the temple, head to Pancha Rathas, which is a group of five monolithic temples that are carved out of a single rock. The temples are dedicated to the five Pandava brothers from the epic Mahabharata. In the afternoon, explore the ancient caves and rock-cut temples. You can also explore the local markets and savour some of the local cuisine.
If you have time, we suggest visiting the Government Museum in Egmore, which is known for its collection of bronze sculptures, or the Kapaleeswarar Temple, which is one of the oldest temples in Chennai. You can also check out some of the local nightclubs and bars to keep the party going. If you want to go on a day trip, we recommend visiting the town of Kanchipuram, which is known for its silk sarees and ancient temples.
