Two Days in Mumbai on a Shoestring Budget in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Colaba Causeway Market
20 minutes (6.7 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Colaba Causeway Market is a major shopping hub for street shopping lovers. It is a popular tourist destination that offers traditional Indian wear, accessories, antiques, and souvenirs. Morning is the best time to enjoy shopping before the crowd and heat. In the afternoon, get ready to explore the famous Gateway of India, built during the British Raj. You can take a ferry to visit Elephanta Caves located on an island off the coast of Mumbai. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk on Marine Drive, also known as “Queen’s Necklace” because of the streetlights that look like a string of pearls from afar.

  2. Day 2: Juhu Beach
30 minutes (10.3 km) from Colaba Causeway Market

Start your day with a visit to the famous Siddhivinayak Temple, located in Prabhadevi. Afterward, head towards Bandra, known for the vibrant street art and architecture. Visit the 400-year-old Mount Mary Church, and enjoy the stunning view of the sea from Bandstand Promenade. In the afternoon, visit Juhu Beach, one of the most famous beaches in Mumbai. You can enjoy the sunset and delicious street food, including pani puri, bhel puri, and pav bhaji. In the evening, visit the famous ISKCON temple located near Juhu beach.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit the Nehru Science Centre, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and Haji Ali Dargah. For a day trip, you can visit Alibaug, a coastal town located 2 hours from Mumbai, or Lonavala, a hill station located 3 hours from Mumbai. To maximize your fun, try local street food, take a local train to experience the city's hustle-bustle, and take a Bollywood tour to learn about India's film industry.
