Public transportation is available through Songthaews (red-colored pick-up trucks) which charge ฿30-50 per trip. You can also rent a scooter for ฿350-500 per day or a car for ฿1,000-1,500 per day. It's recommended to wear a helmet while riding a scooter and to carry a copy of your passport while driving a car in Chiang Mai.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to Chiang Rai and visit the stunning White Temple. Or if you have less time, you can skip Mae Ngat Dam and explore the city centre of Chiang Mai instead. Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is the main airport serving Chiang Mai city. It is located about 10 km south-west of the city centre and easily reachable by taxi or Songthaews.
